Children in Crossfire

21st Jan 2026

To mark the beginning of Catholic Schools Week, our P7 pupils had the privilege of listening to Richard Moore, founder of Children in Crossfire, whose message of forgiveness, compassion and hope left a lasting impression on all of them.

Richard shared his lived experience of losing his sight, reminding us that “it’s a great time to be blind” — not because challenges don’t exist, but because of the kindness, compassion and innovation that can be found when we truly choose to see with our hearts.

The children were deeply moved by his reflections on forgiveness:
•Anger only affects the person who is angry
•Forgiveness is a gift you give to yourself
•Forgiveness doesn’t change the past, but it can change the future
•Forgiveness is not the same as justifying

We also explored how technology, like Richard’s Meta glasses, can be used for good or harm — just like any powerful tool. As Richard reminded us, “Bombs are built by smart people who didn’t use their hearts.” Intelligence alone is not enough — we must educate the heart as well as the brain.

Children learned about the incredible work of Children in Crossfire, which supports education, clean water and vital resources for children across Asia, Africa and South America, helping children access schooling from as young as six years old.

Richard’s message was clear and inspiring:
We have brilliant brains — but it’s what we choose to do with our hearts that truly matters.

Thank you, Richard, for challenging our pupils to think deeply, act kindly and use both their minds and their hearts to make a difference in the world 💛
